Barometers

Barometers An instrument used to measure the atmospheric pressure. Around the mid 17th century experiments by Galileo and Torricelli discovered that a tube of mercury with one end plugged and turned upside down the open end in a container of more mercury, remained full to around 29” in height and that varying barometric pressure would raise or lower this column of mercury. From these experiments barometers were developed.
