Ebonised Bracket Clocks

Ebonising is a technique of decorating a clock case to give the appearance of ebony. It uses a French polish with a black stain in often applied to a fruitwood carcass. It accentuates the brass details of a clock such as the dial, handles and spandrels etc, used predominantly on bracket clocks but sometimes found on longcase and mantel clocks.
