Oak Longcase Clocks

Oak was used to construct longcase clock cases in its solid form only, i.e. it was not used as a veneer. It was used extensively as a ‘carcase’ wood upon which finer timbers were veneered, or used to produce ‘solid oak’ clock cases. Oak longcase clock cases can come in a variety of colours depending on how it has been treated during its life, varying from a very dark, almost black to a warm golden colour.
