About The Clock Work Shop
The driving force behind the Clock Work Shop is Peter Ponsford Jones. Peter's love of antique clocks
stretches back almost a lifetime. Having served an apprenticeship as an instrument maker, he
then went on to become head of a school art department, before settling in to a full
time career selling and restoring antique clocks. Peter's love of English Fusee Dial clocks in
particular means The Clock Work Shop has probably the most comprehensive range of antique dial clocks
in the country.
In 1996 Peter was joined in the present shop by his business partner Kevin Hurd, who had been restoring and
dealing in antique clocks for some years on a part time basis. He came from Bristow Helicopters, where he
had served an apprenticeship as helicopter engineer. Kevin has a passion for all English antique clocks, but
particularly Longcase and Lantern antique Clocks.
We were lucky to welcome Richard Scorey in July 1998, who had just completed the three year British Horological
Institute examinations in technical horology. He gained graduate BHI status in June 1998. Originally
Richard served an apprenticeship as a mechanic, which started his interest in engineering that has now developed
into his enjoyment of working with clocks.
