DUPLEX PLATFORM ESCAPEMENT DIAL CLOCK
An extremely rare if not unique 11” line fusee Dial Clock with Duplex platform escapement giving dead-beat ½ seconds on the dial. Platform scratch-signed “Philcox Patent No.270” (George Philcox known working 1835-47 “spent his life on improvements and inventions to do with escapements and compensation” – Britten). Earliest cleaning date Mar.12. 1846.
Massive movement, dial signed “F Lecluse 7 Frith St London. Patent No. 246” (Britten lists him at this address 1845-75). Flat iron painted dial blued steel hands locked cast bezel with convex glass, slim Mahogany ring pegged to the box in the usual way. Mahogany box only 23/4”/7cm deep having only one door in the top for access to the platform.
